OEM vs. ODM Manufacturing — Which Model Fits Your Brand
Understanding the difference helps you choose the right production approach for your streetwear line. Chanjoye offers both OEM and ODM services — here is how they compare.
| Aspect | OEM Manufacturing | ODM Manufacturing |
|---|---|---|
| Design Ownership | You provide the design — tech pack, sketches, or reference samples. We manufacture to your exact specifications. | We present ready-made designs or co-develop new styles. You select and customize — colors, fabrics, trims, and branding. |
| Best For | Established brands with in-house design teams; startups with clear design vision; collections requiring full creative control. | New brands without design resources; retailers expanding categories quickly; buyers who need trend-ready products fast. |
| Customization Level | 100% custom — every detail from silhouette and seam construction to hang tags and care labels is built to your specification. | High — customize fabric, colors, prints, embroidery, labels, and packaging on proven base styles. New pattern development available. |
| Time to Production | 4-8 weeks (includes pattern making, grading, sampling, and fit approval before bulk production begins). | 2-5 weeks (base patterns exist; customization and sampling are faster, so bulk production starts sooner). |
| Minimum Order Quantity | Typically 100-300 pieces per design per colorway. Lower quantities available at a surcharge for startup brands. | Typically 50-200 pieces per style. More flexible MOQ since base materials and patterns are already in rotation. |
| Cost Per Piece | Moderate to higher — custom pattern development, grading, and exclusive sampling add upfront costs that amortize over volume. | Competitive — shared pattern and material efficiencies reduce per-unit cost, especially for smaller production runs. |
Not sure which model works for your brand? Our team will assess your design assets, timeline, and budget to recommend the best approach — with no obligation.

Consultation
Share your design concept, reference images, or tech pack. Our team assesses feasibility, timelines, and cost — and provides a detailed quote within 24 hours.
Design Development
Our design team refines your concept into production-ready technical drawings, including construction details, measurements, and material specifications.
Fabric Sourcing
We source fabrics from certified mills and ship swatches for your approval. GSM, composition, color accuracy, and shrinkage are verified before procurement.
Pattern Making
Professional pattern makers create and grade patterns for all sizes in your range. Digital pattern storage ensures consistency across production runs and reorders.
Sampling
Pre-production samples are completed in 7–15 days. You review fit, fabric feel, print quality, and construction. We revise until you approve — no limit on sampling rounds.
Sample Approval
Once you sign off on the pre-production sample, it becomes the gold standard. All bulk production garments are measured and checked against this approved reference.
Bulk Production
Production runs complete in 15–40 days depending on order complexity and volume. Real-time progress updates keep you informed at every milestone.
QC Inspection
AQL 2.5 Level II inspection covers stitching, measurements, fabric defects, print accuracy, color consistency, labeling, and packaging for every production batch.

Garments are folded, poly-bagged, and carton-packed to your specifications. Custom hang tags, price tags, barcode labels, and branded packaging are applied in-house.
Shipping
FOB, CIF, or DDP shipping arranged via sea or air freight. Full documentation including commercial invoice, packing list, and certificate of origin is provided.
Quality Control — How We Protect Your Brand Reputation
Quality is non-negotiable in streetwear. Our four-stage QC system catches defects early, reduces waste, and ensures every garment that leaves our factory meets your brand standards.
Raw Material Inspection
100% of incoming fabric rolls are inspected before cutting. We check GSM weight, color consistency under D65 lighting, visible defects, and pre-wash shrinkage rates. Any roll outside tolerance is rejected at the source.
- GSM verification per roll
- Color matching under D65 lightbox
- Shrinkage rate pre-testing
- Visible defect flagging
In-Line Inspection
During production, we inspect a minimum of 20% of garments per batch at each workstation. Stitching consistency, seam strength, and measurement tolerances are checked in real time so corrections happen before the batch completes.
- 20% minimum inspection rate
- Stitch-per-inch verification
- Seam strength testing
- Real-time measurement checks
Final Inspection (AQL 2.5)
Before packaging, every order undergoes AQL 2.5 Level II sampling inspection. We check full garment construction, print placement accuracy, embroidery tension, labeling correctness, and overall finish against your approved sample.
- AQL 2.5 Level II standard
- Full garment measurement audit
- Print & embroidery accuracy check
- Label & tag verification
Pre-Shipment Check
A random sample is drawn from finished, packed cartons per order. This final audit verifies that folding, poly-bagging, carton labeling, and assortment are correct — so what arrives at your door matches what you approved.
- Random carton sampling
- Packaging integrity check
- Carton label & assortment audit
- Final photo report to client
Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers to the questions we hear most from brands evaluating manufacturing partners in China.
Is OEM or ODM right for my brand?
Choose OEM if you have your own designs, tech packs, or a clear creative direction and want full control over every detail. Choose ODM if you need design support — we present existing styles or co-develop new ones, and you customize fabrics, colors, and branding. Many brands start with ODM to test the market, then transition to OEM as their design team grows. Not sure? Contact us for a free assessment.
How long does it take from inquiry to delivery?
Typical timeline for an OEM order: consultation and quoting (1-2 days), fabric sourcing and swatch approval (3-7 days), pattern making (3-5 days), sampling (7-15 days), sample approval and revisions (3-7 days), bulk production (15-40 days depending on quantity and complexity), QC and packaging (2-3 days), and shipping (5-30 days depending on method). Total: approximately 5-12 weeks. ODM orders are typically 2-3 weeks faster since base patterns exist.
How do you guarantee quality?
We apply a four-stage quality control system: (1) 100% raw material inspection before cutting, (2) in-line inspection covering 20%+ of production at each workstation, (3) AQL 2.5 Level II final inspection on every order before packaging, and (4) pre-shipment random sampling from packed cartons. Every order is measured against your approved pre-production sample. We also provide photo and video inspection reports so you can verify quality remotely before shipment.
Can I visit the factory in Dongguan?
Absolutely. We welcome factory visits and encourage our brand partners to see the production floor in person. You can tour the cutting, sewing, printing, embroidery, QC, and finishing zones; meet the production team; and review your samples on-site. Our Dongguan facility is approximately 1 hour from Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport and 1.5 hours from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. Contact us to schedule a visit — we can arrange airport pickup.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept T/T (telegraphic transfer), L/C (letter of credit) for larger orders, Western Union, and PayPal for sampling and small-batch payments. Standard terms: 30% deposit to begin production, 70% balance before shipment — with photos and inspection reports provided before final payment. Custom payment terms are negotiable for long-term partners and high-volume contracts.
